Red 'X" on MS Outlook email images

You may face the issue in  MS outlook that HTML images are not displayed and having red 'X' instaed of images.

Please follow the steps to get the images back:

Step 1:

  1. Click on the new "File" tab in Ms Outlook
  2. Click on "Options"
  3. Click on "Trust Center"
  4. Click on "Trust Center Settings"
  5. Uncheck the "Don't download pictures automatically in HTML e-mail messages or RSS items" check box
  6. Click the "Okay" button
  7. Exit Outlook 2010
  8. Clear the Internet and Outlook temporary files.
Try to reboot the computer and check your Ms outlook.

Step 2:

When Outlook 2010 opens an HTML-formatted email message that contains an HTTP reference to an image that requires proxy authentication, Outlook won’t bring up the password dialog and the image won’t be displayed.

To address this, you need to set this registry key for Outlook 2010:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common
DWORD: AllowImageProxyAuth
Data value: 2

If you use Outlook 2007, you need to add AllowImageProxyAuth to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common
When the value is set to 1, you’re prompted for authentication once per Outlook session. If you cancel the authentication request, you are not prompted again during that Outlook session.

When the value is set to 2, you’re prompted for authentication as needed. Typically, this is once per Outlook session. However, you may be prompted multiple times under certain circumstances. If you cancel the authentication request for one image, you’ll be prompted for the next image that requires proxy authentication.

If the key is missing or set to 0, you will not be prompted for authentication, and the image might not be displayed.

If you feel difficulty in Editing registry values please create a registry value by your self

> Close Outlook.
> Open Notepad. Copy the following into a new text document:

For Outlook 2010

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common]
"AllowImageProxyAuth"=dword:00000002

> Copy the above values from "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 to dword:00000002" depending on your MS outlook version in Notepad
> Click on File --> Save As
> File name: Outlook_Fix.reg
> Save as type: Change to "All Files"
> Click Save.
> Open the location where you saved the registry file.
> Double-click on the file.
