System tray icons MIssing in Windows Vista

You can see sometimes the system tray icons are missing.

It is usually....

Because of some system modification, some of the icons may be missing.....

To restore the System tray icons. Follow the below steps.

The issue may be fixed before making modification in registry trying to restart explorer.exe before trying the registry modifications, because that may fix the problem on its own sometime. If not

1. Go to Start > Run (or Windows-key + "R"), type in "regedit" and hit "OK".

2. Before making any changes in registry it is safe to back up the registry. After backing up registry settings

3. Navigate to the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion \TrayNotify"

and the values

4. Delete the values "IconStreams" and "PastIconsStream"

5. Now open up the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), go to the "Processes" tab, select "explorer.exe" and click "End Process"

6. Now open the "Applications" tab and click "New Task..." at the bottom-right of the window.

7. In the message box that pops up type in "explorer.exe" and hit "OK"

8. Explorer.exe will reload, and that's it! The missing icons should now be back in the system-tray where they belong.

Thanks for visiting....
